There are moments when I look at myself and wonder:

Am I actually crazy?

Not insane. Not detached from reality.

Just… changed.

I think about who I used to be and compare him to who I am now, and sometimes the distance between those two people is difficult to comprehend.

But perhaps some of what we call “wrong with us” is simply what remains after we’ve endured something for too long.

Survival changes people.

Pain teaches behaviors. Fear creates defenses. Disappointment changes expectations.

The danger is believing those adaptations have to become permanent.

Maybe you learned to survive that way.

That doesn’t mean you have to live that way.

What part of who you are today was built for survival rather than for the life you actually want?
